Chicken Livers with Risotto

Ooh, guess who’s new camera turned up? I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D3000 which is the current entry-level SLR – and mighty fine it is too! You can find details of all the kit in My Shop, together with links to buy the stuff if you so desire. So, this delicious but simple recipe is illustrated using the new camera using the basic lens that comes with it. One note, I used natural light for all of these by placing the items by the window. Much nicer than a flash and daylight works wonderfully with food photography. Anyway, to the recipe.

This is a straight forward risotto served with gently fried chicken livers. The two go together very nicely and make a perfect, cheap summer lunch.

Dahl and Rice – Bear Style

Many places in India, especially certain religious sites, are very generous and will feed for free any passing stranger – though helping with the washing up is a nice gesture! For obvious reasons the food is often very cheap and basic, but can be alarmingly tasty! Here is my take on a great and cheapo favourite – Dahl and Rice. I have cooked this regularly through my life, both when flush with cash or completely broke. You can go stuff your chocolate – THIS is the ultimate comfort food! As usual, I have left some of the quantities a little vague – well, you will make this better if you play around with it a little. It can be a very personal dish! (more…)
