Here is another dish that is ripe for mass production – slow roasted leg or shoulder of pork. I have chosen this dish because if you have a big enough oven dish you can get several in there at the same time; between three of you you could produce a lot of pork! This dish takes about 5 hours to cook, so get it on in the morning and then ignore it.
Normally I would suggest cooking this on the bone, but for this purpose go for deboned – it will be easier.
I cooked this last night and it went down very well, so this is hot off the press!

Okay, this is to show you can do it with chicken packs too!
Right, street parties are about mass catering, but so often they consist of a load of sandwiches made from pappy bread, some bridge roles and rather tame chicken drumsticks – well, not at this feast!
I have already covered doing bread, now lets move onto chicken. Part of the trick of catering is not to do a thousand dishes, but do just a handful really, really well. And for something like this they should be easy. Like the bread recipe, you will need some volunteers for this one – mostly so you have use of lots of ovens. It is a really basic recipe – whole chickens or chicken pieces roasted with orange juice and butter to give a nice juicy dish. So, here we go:

The traditional thing to do with bread
If you really want to make your street party (or garden party) go better than the rest, then you need to roll up your sleaves and get cooking – buying a pile of manufactured rubbish from supermarket is just not good enough!
To get you going, if people like nothing else, they love great bread and I suggest you get a whole pile of volunteers ready to cook every type of bread they can think of first thing in the morning so that it is as fresh as possible.
